A Radio Census of the Massive Stellar Cluster Westerlund 1

Lead Research Organisation: University College London
Department Name: Physics and Astronomy

Abstract

The goal is to advance our understanding of fundamental physical processes in the evolution of massive stars; these include mass-loss through clumped stellar winds, the incidence and role of binarity, and the mechanical and chemical feedback from outflows.
The PhD project will be primarily based on the ATCA observations of the massive stellar cluster Westerlund 1, with comparative study carried out against other observations gained of the stellar cluster with ALMA.

Title Detections made of Westerlund 1 Radio Survey
Description Database created of different source detections from radio observations of Westerlund 1.
Type Of Material Database/Collection of data
Year Produced 2019
Provided To Others? No
Impact Allows for consideration of stellar sources present in the stellar cluster Westerlund 1, and their associated fluxes, spectral indices and source sizes. Also indicates new radio detections of these stellar sources, as well as detections of undetermined objects, some of which have no associated other detection, and some of which have millimetre detection also associated with them. This information will be available in a paper still to be published, hopefully later this year.

Results and Impact Poster was presented on the research carried out (that was funded directly by the award) at an international conference in the US. Alongside the poster, a summary slide and quick summary of the poster was presented orally to the conference attendees to raise awareness of the poster.
