Abstract
The CKM quark mixing element Vcb has only been measured before at the energy scale ~2GeV available in B decays. In this PhD project, the student will contribute to the first pioneering measurement of this quantity at the weak scale using data from the ATLAS experiment at CERN. The project will begin with a feasibility study of such a measurement, comparing different approaches. It will continue by performing the first measurement using the method determined to be the best. In this way it may be possible to resolve the running of this quantity with energy scale, which would represent the first ever observation of the running of a CKM mixing element with energy scale.
