Abstract
Understanding the performance of photovoltaic systems requires meteorological data. This is normally collected for a limited number of sites, which are not where the systems are sited.
The project will generate national scale operating environments for the UK as well as India. The starting point is an existent model at CREST in a GIS environment, which will be extended significantly by combining meteorological data as well as satellite data to deliver a model with much improved accuracy. This will then be used for for- and past casting photovoltaic performance.

Description | As part of the Joint UK India Clean Energy project, this award has been used to develop a novel methodology to estimate irradiance values from a sky camera. In addition this newly developed model is used as a training dataset to improve satellite irradiance models with particular reference to the UK and India. This model can then be used to assist in the improved deployment of photovoltaics in India. |
Exploitation Route | Improved deployment of renewable energy and potential in improved climate and weather modelling. |
Sectors | Communities and Social Services/Policy Energy Environment |
