Abstract
The research concentrates on highlighting how sound can play a critical role in the medical environment. The hospital soundscape is unique due to a diverse population which remains unrecognised by generalised sound guidelines. Medical architecture mediates the how we experience hospital sounds; however, our understanding of this role and its potential is limited due to lack of robust soundscape data. My studies will attempt to collect longitudinal soundscape data focusing on; a variety of specific sub-groups (wards); a range of perspectives (staff, patients, visitors); a range of environments (wards, layouts); and a comparable and robust methodology.
