Engineering Enzymes for Animal Nutrition
Lead Research Organisation:
University of East Anglia
Department Name: Biological Sciences
Abstract
This is a collaborative programme of hypothesis-driven research between UK industry, AB Vista, and the UEA. The industrial partner is one of the largest suppliers of enzymes for animal feed applications, and this project will provide training in enzyme discovery and enzyme engineering that have direct relevant to industry needs.
The project will seek to attempt to engineer the catalytic and physiochemical properties of a new class of phytases to enhance their catalytic flexibility, enhancing their contribution to animal nutrition. The research will make extensive use of local facilities including the Centre for Structural and Molecular Biochemistry (CMSB) and external facilities such as the synchrotron at the Diamond Light Source.
