Modelling the impact of predicted and actual weather on online customer behaviour
Lead Research Organisation:
University of Liverpool
Department Name: Geography and Planning
Abstract
This project will aim to investigate and explore patterns of online spend between product categories, in regards to changing weather conditions. While there has been some study dedicated towards the relationship between certain product categories and weather conditions in a physical retail store context, there is much less evidence and research focused towards online consumption. Therefore, through working with a leading UK online retail partner, the project will:
1 Assess how the season and its weather impacts purchasing patterns.
2 Identify the role seasonality and its weather plays in specific product category sales.
3 Determine how weather impacts purchasing patterns across various temporal scales.
4 Evaluate the role of extreme weather events on purchasing patterns.
Alongside these objectives (as the project develops), it will be flexible in its scope and respond to changing commercial and academic demands.
