Abstract
The Wellcome EPSRC Centre for Interventional and Surgical Sciences is inviting applications for one PhD studentship in "Flexible Sensors for Robotic Surgery". The successful applicant will be involved in the development of a next generation multi-arm flexible robot with on-board imaging and sensing, and, more specifically, the exteroceptive sensing aspects of the project. The student will research flexible force and shape sensors, their integration, and the translation of the developed approaches to the benchtop system. The team's goal is to develop a flexible robot to facilitate novel interventions to ocular structures, including retinal stem-cell delivery and thrombolytic drug deposition.
The project is part of an extensive collaboration between WEISS, UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, and Moorfields Eye Hospital The student will be a member of a vibrant team of approximately 10 investigators and students, and will be co-supervised by Dr. Christos Bergeles (robotics), Prof. Lyndon da Cruz (ophthalmology), and Dr. Manish Tiwari (materials).
