Abstract
This is a collaborative program of hypothesis-driven research between UK industry, AB Vista, a division of AB Agri, and the UEA. The project falls in the BBSRC Priority Area of Sustainable Agriculture and will provide a mechanistic explanation of the efficacy of the industry's recombinant phytases (inositol hexakisphosphate phosphatases) to agricultural efficiency.
Our laboratory in the School of Biological Sciences at UEA has expertise in phytate (inositol hexakisphosphate) and phytase biology, structural biology and enzymology. You will learn skills in enzymology, analytical science (HPLC, GC-MS, Isotope Mass Ratio Spectrometry) and bioinformatics that have direct relevance to industry needs and you will join enjoy placement(s) with our industrial partner according to your developing interests. Your research extends substantial programs of research funded since 2012 at UEA.

Description | Novel measurements of inositol phosphates in poultry tissues using an adapted method from previous research, which has contributed to the production of a first-author manuscript submitted to PLoS ONE |
Exploitation Route | Methodology adapted for use in this funding for measurement of inositol phosphates allows for future research to be carried out in the area without use of radioisotope labelling to achieve similar results |
Sectors | Agriculture Food and Drink |
Description | As a CASE funded studentship directly linked with an industrial research organisation, research outcomes the project made by way of methodological development are beginning to impact the future research planning of the organisation in advancing opportunity for new measurements previously not possible in their targeted animal studies |
First Year Of Impact | 2021 |
Sector | Agriculture, Food and Drink |
Impact Types | Economic |
