Mathematical modelling of Biological Systems
Lead Research Organisation:
University of St Andrews
Department Name: Mathematics and Statistics
Abstract
My research and study will be mathematical
models of cancer growth and invasion, with
a specific focus on the link between
invasion and metastatic spread (secondary
tumours).
I will be developing novel individual-based
models of cancer cell invasion employing
spatial game theoretic approaches and
undertaking rigorous mathematical analysis
to derive
equivalent continuum models i.e. systems
of nonlinear differential equations. I confirm
that the project described above has no
application to weapons manufacture,
terrorist
activity, or indeed anything else connected
with the arts of war and aggression.
