Space 4.0 Architectures for Planetary Missions
Lead Research Organisation:
University of Leicester
Department Name: Physics and Astronomy
Abstract
The goals of this project are to assess the applicability of the Space 4.0 philosophy to planetary science missions. Using the design of an existing small satellite bus several mission studies will be undertaken, based on Level-1 science requirements identified in studies of conventional missions published in the recent literature. End-to-end modelling will be used to assess the performance capabilities of key technologies such as space nuclear power systems and efficient radiation shielding designs, while analysis of trajectories designed specifically to exploit small, multi-platform architectures will be analysed to determine mission energetics and launcher requirements.
