Abstract
Heterocycles are ubiquitous in biologically active compounds. Therefore, preparing heterocycles efficiently is a vitally important goal in sectors such as the pharmaceutical and agrochemical industries. Although there are numerous methods to prepare heterocycles, many are limited to the preparation of one particular type of heterocycle. New methods that give access to many different classes of heterocycles using the same basic reaction and catalyst system would render the chemistry easier to visualise and implement in new scenarios, and would therefore be highly enabling. This project aims to achieve this goal, and proposes to develop new nickel-catalysed reactions recently discovered in our group for the synthesis of diverse heterocycles.
