Climate change impacts on sustainable development, and national strategic adaptation responses

Abstract
The principal aim of this DPhil is to develop and apply transferable system methodologies to future-proof socio-physical infrastructure networks for sustainability and climate-resilience.
This will be tailored to the particular context of Small Island Developing States (SIDS), addressing the literature gaps.
Contributing to these aims, the thesis is structured around four research questions arising from the main literature gaps:
1. How can the impact of climate risk on socio-economic and physical networks of national interdependent infrastructure be visualized in data-scarce environments?
2. How can a criticality metric be developed that quantitatively assesses the importance of national interdependent infrastructure assets for sustainable development and resilience?
3. How can a quantified, socio-physical infrastructure modelling framework be devised that incorporates short-term risk into national capacity infrastructure planning?
4. How can decision-makers in SIDS plan adaptively to improve the social, economic and environmental vulnerability of infrastructure networks?"
