Characterising the influence of stakeholders on building energy consumption.

Abstract

The evidence for anthropogenic forcing of Earth's climate through carbon emissions continues to grow, and CO2 levels in the atmosphere continue to rise. In the EU, buildings are responsible for 40% of energy consumption and 36% of CO2 emissions (EC, 2017). Improvements in the energy efficiency of buildings can greatly reduce carbon emissions, advancing us towards a sustainable society.
A building's energy consumption profile is the result of a complex set of causal systems covering technical, environmental and social elements. For example, high building energy consumption can be caused by inefficient design or operation, by low material quality or lack of maintenance.
Characterising the influence of stakeholder groups on energy efficiency presents both considerable challenges and considerable opportunities.
This project aims to develop advanced quantitative methods (AQM) to identify and quantify the relationships of a range of stakeholder groups on the energy consumption of a building. The stakeholder groups include building occupants, maintenance providers, facility managers, designers
and financial decision makers.
