Department Name: Mechanical Engineering
Abstract
Novel aero-engine architectures include advanced fans with low tip speeds and low pressure ratios. These fan designs are integrated in challenging engine architectures comprising of short slim-line aggressive intake designs and reduced axial distance from Outlet Guide Vanes (OGV) and pylon. Fan sub-system operability could be limited by OGV buffet, especially at off-design and crosswind conditions. This work will explore the possibility of simulating bufet of OGVs using Hyrid LES-RANS and enable RR to develop an understanding of key parameters controlling buffet, establish assessment criteria at design stage and potentially improve OGV design.
