The First Light and Reionisation Epoch Simulations
Lead Research Organisation:

Department Name: Sch of Mathematical & Physical Sciences
Abstract
Upcoming observational facilities such as JWST, Euclid & WFIRST will detect large numbers of galaxies in the epoch of reionisation (EoR, z>6). The aim of this PhD project will be to improve modelling of galaxies in this epoch in order to better understand how to interpret the observations and to test our understanding of the astrophysics of these first galaxies. The project will include algorithmic and code development aimed at resimulation of galaxies with improved ISM physics. The scientific objectives will focus on the morphological structure of the first galaxies, the role of dust in the physics of the ISM, and the escape of ionising photons.
