Abstract
This PhD studies the installation effects of airframe noise sources. It is part of an EU H2020 project entitled ARTEM. It is partnership with Airbus and DLR. The specific goals are to understand the physics and identify the drivers of installation effect on LG noise for wing mounted and body mounted landing gears, develop low noise technology based on favourable LG installation effect, and validate Airbus state-of-the-art LBM capability (LaBS) for LG noise assessment on complex configurations (LG + high lifted wing + potentially belly fairing). The work performed by the PhD is both numerical and experimental. Wall Modelled LES and Lattice Boltzmann solvers will be used to understand landing gear installation effects and their drivers. Once the drivers have been identified, low noise configurations will be developed at tested experimentally at the Anechoic Wind Tunnel at the University of Southampton.
