Abstract
My research aims to identify the role of covert imitation processes via the motor cortex (M1) in non-native speech perception and perceptual learning. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, I am currently using behavioural speech stimulus-response compatibility (SRC) tasks in online experiments to estimate automatic imitation of native vs. non-native speech. As of 2022, I am hoping to utilise transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) protocols to evaluate the functional role of M1 in non-native speech perception and phonetic learning.
