Abstract
Recidivism rates (ie of re-offending) is a topic of much debate. The Welsh Government has asserted its commitment to custodial education and employability support, yet the opportunities provided in Welsh prisons have been criticised, and there remains a dearth of research on 'Welsh-only' prisons. This inter-disciplinary project will address that lacuna by exploring the link between custodial education and employability support to reduce reoffending in South Wales. Qualitative empirical research will form the foundation of the project, with the applicant using semi-structured interviews with three key groups (prisoners, prison staff, third-party resettlement workers and organisations) to generate Wales-specific data.
