ESRC DTP Interdisciplinary Studentship: Brain mechanisms for individualised learning
Lead Research Organisation:
University of Cambridge
Department Name: Linguistics
Abstract
This project relies on the recent advances of neuroscience to examine individual learning. More specifically, the aim of
the project is to explain the existence of individual variability in learning ability and attempts to do so by examining the
neural oscillations produced, while the brain processes different types of information. One of the areas of focus will be
language learning: whether and how it differs from other types of learning and what brain mechanisms underlie the
learning of different aspects of language (phonology, semantics, syntax, pragmatics). An interdisciplinary approach will
be followed, combining linguistics with neuroscience, human learning and machine learning.
