Hydrides in Zirconium Alloys
Lead Research Organisation:

Department Name: Materials
Abstract
We aim to understand phase transformations and hydride formation in zirconium alloys used in nuclear reactors. We are developing new characterisation methods, based upon electron backscatter diffraction and other microscopy methods to provide quantitative and mechanistic insight into this challenge. A specific focus of this work will include analysis of different quenched microstructures to explore the kinetics and phase transformations using in-situ analysis methods. This approach will enable us to understand the lifetime of components, as well as the impact of different manufacturing methods.
