Urban-Economic Development, Urban Density, and Purpose Built Student Housing
Lead Research Organisation:
Swansea University
Department Name: College of Science
Abstract
This project will investigate the social, political, and economic causes and effects of the recent 'boom' in construction of purpose built student housing accommodation facilities in Swansea. It will furthermore consider how this development relates to broader trends related to student housing across the UK, if not the world. This project is unique in placing a student in Swansea at the moment when approximately 2,000 new private, student housing units are expected to come on line between the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 academic years. The project will consider the dynamic relationships between three main empirical objects: urban-economic development, universities, and students and their housing. No unusual risks are expected, but regardless of this basic safety precautions will be taken in relation to urban field work.
