Discovering new RNA biology in lung cancer
Lead Research Organisation:
Queen Mary University of London
Department Name: Barts Cancer Institute
Abstract
We have discovery a new 'hidden' RNA code/biology within the 5' region of mRNA that is
deregulated in lung cancer and possible many other neoplasms. MicroRNA-mediated
silencing in mammalians regulates almost all fundamental cellular and biological processes.
This exciting project will examine this 'new code' in regulating mRNA-expression and reveal a
fundamental process previously hidden and one that is not only critical for life but if faulty in
any way can contribute to tumorigenesis. This project is a once in a lifetime opportunity for a
talented PhD student to get on board the discovery of paradigm shifting molecular cancer
biology.
