Abstract

My proposed studentship project will focus a great deal on data management, conversion and analysis, and so experience of handling real, large datasets and having to go through the process of cleaning, analysing and visualising them is highly relevant to the proposed studentship. Furthermore, I expect to be compelled to learn to use some new software that I don't already know, and I believe that, having had to learn to use new software on-the-job while at Frontier Economics, I will be more confident of approaching learning to use new software. Having had practice with working in small teams and having had to present my findings to Economist colleagues with much less technical expertise than I had, I was also able to develop my skills of interpersonal communication and to explain these concepts in simply understandable terms. I believe that this is something that transfers directly over to my potential time in the studentship, since I will have to communicate my findings to others should I need their help, or should they conversely, need mine.
