Catalytic Chirality Generation: New Strategies for Organic Synthesis

Abstract
The project will address topical challenges in medicinal chemistry through the provisions of new enantioselective methodologies. Research will be conducted in the areas and (i) aza-Heck reactions, (ii) C-C bond activation processes, (iii) enantioselective hydroarylation reactions and (iv) C-N bond activation processes. A wide range of avenues will be investigated and the most promising leads will be selected for development. The project will provide broad based training in organic chemistry and the student will gain experience in (i) methodology development, (ii) mechanistic studies, and (iii) target directed synthesis. The student will become proficient in high level practical and analytical skills, including air sensitive chemistry and complex structure determination. Results will be published in top level peer reviewed journals and dissemination to industry will be ensured by close consultation with potential end users. The student will receive training in the preparation of scientific documents, the delivery of scientific presentations and the rigorous assessment of risk associated with synthetic experiments.
