Gender Pay Inequality In Uk Medicine

Abstract
In 2017, the U.K. became one of the first countries to require employers to report the gender pay gap (GPG hereinafter) (Else, 2018). The ONS (2019) reports the GPG among full-time employees in the U.K. currently stands at 8.9%. The GPG among total U.K. employees has declined from 17.8% in 2018 to 17.3% in 2019. However, in the public sector the GPG has increased from 16% in 2018 to 16.7% in 2019 (Financial Times, 2019). In the OME's business plan for 2017-2020, one of the aims is to understand the GPG in the public sector, an insight provided by the recent OME's report by Jones and Kaya (2019). In the report it was found that the GPG in the DDRB is of 20%, higher than any of the other eight PRB's considered by the OME. Such evidence suggests that further investigation of the GPG in the PRBs is relevant and necessary in the process of tackling gender discrimination.
