Department Name: School of Water, Energy and Environment
Abstract
Power converter based flexible power generation and AI enabled network control strategy will improve the power network operation with renewable energy integration, in particular will improve frequency stability with deviation less than 50 plus or minus 0.01Hz, increase renewable energy penetration rate up to 80 percent and enhance the power network resilience to randomly generated disturbance with 'N-1' security criterion.
The project aims to design and model smart energy assets to enhance the flexibility and digitalisation as the main smart features, and to investigate and develop AI-based network control strategy to improve the sustainability and resilience of future power networks achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
