Abstract
The gauge-gravity correspondence provides an exact equivalence between quantum theories of matter without gravity on the one hand, with theories of gravity in higher-dimensional curved spacetime on the other. In particular, the correspondence implies that the thermal properties of the quantum matter are described by black hole solutions. Intricate states of strongly coupled matter will be studied by constructing new gravitational solutions, including black hole solutions. Physical properties of the black holes, such as the entropy, can be obtained using sophisticated geometrical tools which will be further developed.
