Searches for Beyond-Standard-Model signatures with Jets + Missing energy
Lead Research Organisation:

Department Name: Physics
Abstract
The CMS experiment at the LHC provides an exciting opportunity to search for physics beyond the Standard Model. This project will focus on searches including final states with jets and missing transverse momentum, which is the signature of a particle escaping undetected. These searches are especially interesting because they cast a wide net for new physics signatures, including dark matter candidates, as well as more exotic models such as split-SUSY.
The project will make use of advanced computing techniques such as machine learning and apply these to the different aspects of new physics searches, e.g., trigger, reconstruction and/or analysis. In order to achieve this, understanding the operation of the CMS detector, and working on trigger optimisation will also form part of the project.
