Quantum algorithms across an elementary quantum network

Lead Research Organisation: University of Oxford
Department Name: Oxford Physics

Abstract

This project will exploit the two-node elementary quantum network constructed during the NQIT Hub project. This apparatus has already demonstrated entanglement generation between network nodes with a combination of high fidelity and high rate. It further has the unique capability to operate with different species of trapped-ion qubit at each node, enabling local logic operations between interface qubits and memory qubits.

The student will demonstrate local logic operations, first in each node independently, and then combined with inter-node optical entanglement. This will enable a variety of quantum algorithms to be demonstrated involving the network link, for example entanglement distillation to improve the fidelity of node-to-node entanglement beyond the level so far achieved (c.94%).

The student will be supported by postdocs and consumables funding from both the EPSRC QCS Hub and from the EU "AQTION" project.
