Biomaterials with engineered porosity for biomedical applications
Lead Research Organisation:
Loughborough University
Department Name: Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering
Abstract
This PhD project will explore the development of bioactive materials with responsive properties with the primary purpose for use as scaffolds for tissue engineering. The aim is to develop nano- and micro-structured systems that can interact with the external environment (for example the human body) and modify their properties. This research will lead to technological advancements in the biomedical sector, by, for example, providing materials with tailored release profiles of therapeutic compounds, or with controlled rate of degradation.
