Ruthenium-catalysed C-H functionalization of aromatic molecules with anilinium-electrophiles

Lead Research Organisation: University of Manchester
Department Name: Chemistry

Abstract

Objective:
This project will investigate the use of anilinium-derived electrophiles as coupling partners for Ru-catalyzed C-H functionalization reactions, and their application to the synthesis or late-stage functionalization of drugs and other biologically active molecules.
Approach:
A wide variety of anilinium-derived electrophiles will be prepared and tested with a range of Ru-catalysts. Reaction conditions will be optimized, including temperature, solvent, co-additives.
Successful classes of electrophiles will be further investigated to map their scope and potential as well as their applications to industrially relevant compounds.
Remit:
This project falls within the areas of Catalysis and Synthetic Organic Chemistry.
