Data mining the Next Generation Transit Survey

Abstract
"The Next Generation Transit Survey is the premier wide field ground-based survey for the detection of extra-solar planets. This project exploits the red sensitivity of NGTS to investigate the nature of newly discovered M-dwarf binary systems. The properties of M-dwarf binaries remain rather uncertain, in particular the transition from convective to radiative energy transport. Previous studies suggest that M-dwarfs in binaries are inflated relative to single M-dwarf stars, while binary star formation scenarios suggest that their mass ratios should be approximately equal. The study of M-dwarf systems may thus be used to test both stellar formation and stellar evolution models."
