Abstract
Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.

Illuminating intracellular signaling and molecules for single cell analysis.
in Molecular bioSystems
Description | This was a travel grant rather than a project grant. The work led to a new understanding of the mechanism of bioluminescence in living cells and also developed a new systems biology link |
Exploitation Route | There is a continuing collaboration with Japan. Since the grant finished two Japanese students have come over to train in Manchester |
Sectors | Education Healthcare Pharmaceuticals and Medical Biotechnology |
Description | Ths project was a partnership with the laboratory of Dr Ozawa in Tokyo. It allowed several staff to travel to Japanand in return Japanese scientists made several trips to the UK. These included two 6 week student secondments from Japan with a third planned in 2015. the collaboration with the Japanese group is continuing and M. White travels to Japan at end November 2014. The work concentrated on sharing expertise on a number of technologies for protein interactions and on luciferase imaging technology. There have been multiple exchanges of reagents. the Japanese group are developing tools to study NF-kB signalling and helped the UK team to develop an optical switch system to study the cellular response to viruses. through the project each group has established other new contacts and collaborations (Ozawa with Sutton-Liverpool, Sanderson-Liverpool, Lucas-Manchester, Papalopulu-Manchester; White with Ohmiya-AIST, Kuroda-Univ of Tokyo and Kageyama-Kyoto) |
