DNA barcoding and surveillance sampling strategies for Culicoides biting midges (Diptera: Ceratopogonidae) in southern India.
in Parasites & vectors
Description | Expertise on identification of Culicoides biting midges in India is important in predicting the seasonality and range of bluetongue virus. Expertise in India is restricted to certain veterinary personnel and a number of zoological research centres and the community is extremely fragmented. |
Exploitation Route | We have arranged to run a yearly update meeting via funding in India as part of their BTV network of laboratories. This will ensure integration of entomology with the primary source of virological data and build capacity in this area. |

Description | Our meeting recruited over 50 Indian workers interested in Culicoides taxonomy. We carried out a survey within the course of the meeting to assess both barriers to further studies and also current expertise which are recorded in the documents section of the website www.ibvnet.com. 2018 meeting included workers originally identified through this project who contributed to taxonomy meeting in Bangladesh as part of Gnatwork project. |
