Description | We have shown that paper machines can be controlled in such a way that very large savings can be made in the amount of energy used. Better control of the first two stages of paper-making, namely vacuum draining and squeezing, leads to less energy being needed in the third and last stage, namely drying. The great majority of the energy is used in this last stage, to remove a very small amount of water. The potential energy saving is in the region of 25%, which is very significant since paper-making uses a lot of electricity. |
