Abstract
Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.

Description | Information regarding the dynamics of water molecules and small probes have been determined both is solution and complex environments such as supercooled liquids, room temperature ionic liquids has been gathered. A significant amount of instrument development has been undertaken in order to access very low temperatures using ultrafast 2D-IR spectroscopy using cryostats. This work has included a significant amount of understanding developed regarding the impact of such complex sample arrangements on data collected using ultrafast spectroscopy and the work is now beginning to bear fruit, with a PCCP publication in preparation. In addition the behaviour of water in complex biological environments has been studied with key roles for water in enzyme reactions uncovered. |
Exploitation Route | Information has been recovered regarding the presence of a liquid-liquid phase transition in supercooled water. This is of fundamental interest to those studying hydrogen bonding in aqueous systems and could impact across the molecular physics and physical chemistry disciplines. |
