On Plasma Fractionation Treatment and Its Implications in Cells
in IEEE Transactions on Radiation and Plasma Medical Sciences
Description | We have successfully re-engineered the plasma jet to deliver therapeutically useful doses of hydrogen peroxide within clinical acceptable treatment times (< 5 mins). This has resulted in a number of new jet design features that have been patented ("Plasma Device" 20589P/WO). We have shown release of a series of potent antimicrobial agents from a hydrogel dressing - this agent effectively produces log 6 reduction in planktonic micro-organisms. We have incorporated the design features from 20589P/WO into a multi-jet plasma source that can deliver significantly higher concentrations of hydrogen peroxide and can be operated with an anti-microbial loaded plasma screen across a large area wound. This work laid the basis for a joint patent (Bath and Lancaster Universities), which has been further developed under the award EPV00607X1. The patent will be filed in February 2022. |

Title | Plasma Device |
Description | The present invention relates to a plasma device and method for the generation of hydrogen peroxide. There is also provided a plasma treatment method for a patient in need thereof including activating a hydrogel through contact with a plasma including hydrogen peroxide to release therapeutic agents from the hydrogel dressing. There is also provided a method of deactivation of micro-organisms (bacteria and viruses) on surfaces/materials that are thermally sensitive. In such embodiments, the plasma including hydrogen peroxide may be used to decontaminate or treat surfaces directly |
