PI Contribution | Our group in Edinburgh has been developing a spin-orbit exciton formalism to understand the neutron cross section in 3d transition metal compounds where an orbital transition exists. We are currently applying this theory and computer code to data and results from chopper spectrometers, particularly those at Rutherford Labs. |
Collaborator Contribution | Our colleagues in China have contributed samples and also thermodynamic characterizaiton. |
Impact | We have been awarded neutron time for this collaboration and will begin measurements in the summer of 2021. |

Results and Impact | I attended and gave a talk at the APS March Meeting 2023. This work connected with industrial colleagues through a discussion of the technique development and also scientific colleagues. Part of the work we did in this project involved the description of excitonic magnetism and there has been a strong interest from the DOE lab at Oak Ridge to develop this into a general software package. |
