Building Genomics sequencing competency across West African partners

Lead Research Organisation: London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine
Department Name: UNLISTED

Abstract

For our partners involved in molecular detection of Covid-19 without a sequencing facility, it will have
an immediate impact. SOP and lab protocol will be shared. Access will be provided to the unit HTS
and analysis using the CLIMB server and pipeline. The establishment of the genomics facilities will
contribute to the overall institutional capacity development and will involve improved staff and
stakeholder skills, knowledge and experience. Data will be uploaded into open sequence data
repositories for universal open access. Links to the data generated and the platform will accompany
all reports that will also be freely accessible online.

Technical Summary

Consolidate a Network of Sequencing facilities within WAGHA network
• Provide small equipment and ONT MinION sequencer, flow cells and starter pack kits for
sequencing small genomes.
• Run 2 -3 weeks face-to-face hands on training at partner institutions on sequencing workflow.
• Provide access for data analysis, training using Cloud CLIMB platform housed in the Unit.
• Provide remote support from HTC manager on training, access and analysis using established
bioinformatics pipeline.
