| Results and Impact | A UCL team from the Department of Physics and Astronomy organised a one-day pilot hackathon (CSED Hackathon 2024) at the Centre for Space Exochemistry Data (CSED) in Harwell Science and Innovation Campus to engage with technical audiences and foster interdisciplinary collaboration between planetary science and Artificial intelligence. This "proof of concept" event received overwhelmingly positive feedback and attracted 30 participants, including students, PhD candidates, and professionals from industries such as the European Space Agency, Deimos Space, and STFC RAL Space. The pilot event successfully demonstrated the potential to achieve the following objectives of the team's original proposal: To facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise between scientists and machine learning specialists. To create a community of professionals in space science and machine learning, fostering networking and future collaborations. To encourage the development of cutting-edge algorithms and models that can enhance the analysis of space mission data. As a follow up activity, the project team planned an additional event (over 3 days). |
