Department Name: Physics
Abstract
PPARC/STFC have approved a major UK contribution to the T2K experiment in Japan, aiming to perform precision neutrino mixing measurements. Professor Touramanis has a buy-out as T2K-UK project manager, to be extended from this proposal for FY10/11. Dr Chavez and Dr Payne have been working full-time on T2K and this proposal extends their funding for one year from October 2009. Funds have been approved in the final STFC approval (July 2008 Council meeting).

Description | These grants supported the delivery of a major part of the T2K experiment's Near Detector. Using T2K data we made the first observation of electron-neutrino appearance in a man-made muon-neutrino beam in 2013. |
Exploitation Route | Discovery of larger than expected theta_13 opened the era of searches for CP violation in neutrinos |
