KMOS Extension

Lead Research Organisation: University of Oxford
Department Name: Oxford Physics

Abstract

This proposal covers the final phase of Oxford work on the three KMOS spectrographs through final integration at the UKATC and readiness for acceptance testing.

Planned Impact

Due to the unique nature of the KMOS instrument, the impact of this research on the study of galaxy evolution and the star formation history of the Universe will be considerable. These results will be based on the work of the KMOS consortium and other ESO users and will be published in scientific journals and conference proceedings. Oxford's existing outreach activities with local events and schools visits will naturally provide a vehicle for dissemination of the findings, and the technology behind the instrument to a wider public audience.
