Abstract
Southampton leads the Pipeline Imaging (PIP.IMG) work package element of the SDP. This covers the Imaging Pipeline work for the SDP element during Stage 1 & 2 of the SKA Preconstruction Phase. This includes imaging pipelines for the three array types: SKA1_MID, SKA1_LOW & SKA1_SURVEY.
The scope of the imaging pipeline includes:
Gridding
Deconvolution
Peeling**
Continuum Subtraction
Selfcal**
** May be in the calibration pipeline or imaging pipeline depending on the model for processing implemented

Description | - What were the most significant achievements from the award? Input to PDR documentation for the SKA SDP. - To what extent were the award objectives met? If you can, briefly explain why any key objectives were not met. This award is for design work for SKA SDP. This objective is being met. - How might the findings be taken forward and by whom? The material for PDR will influence the contributions for CDR and later construction. |
Exploitation Route | Software development for SKA imaging has an impact on that for a number of other related instruments, such as ALMA, MeerKAT and ASKAP. |
Sectors | Digital/Communication/Information Technologies (including Software) |
Description | This grant funds technical development work for the SKA project. The software prototyping under this grant has contributed to multiple pieces of documentation for this design effort, which have been submitted for PDR. All design work under this grant contributed to earned value from the SKA project to the UK. |
