LEGEND Collaboration (2021) LEGEND-1000 Preconceptual Design Report

 
Description This award led to UK participation in the LEGEND neutrinoless double-beta decay experiment. This experiment is now running and will soon reach unprecedented sensitivity to a rare nuclear decay mode that can yield fundamental insights into the nature of the neutrino, the most abundant matter particle in the universe.
Exploitation Route Academic beneficiaries include neutrino physicists and low-background experimenters working in related particle physics projects. Early career researchers including 4 PhD students have also benefited from this work. Through this award we have also further developed our expertise and R&D into High-Purity Germanium detector technology, and we have deepened our relationship with manufacturing company Mirion.
