PI Contribution | For Workpackage 2 of the STFC QI project, DESY Hamburg are key partners. My team a U Glasgow are upgrading detectors for the ALPS II dark matter search experiment. |
Collaborator Contribution | DESY are leading the ALPS II 'Any light particle' search experiment. The ALPS II experiment is hosted at DESY Hamburg. Dr Axel Lindner is the PI. We are building on my longstanding collaboration with Dr Sae Woo Nam at NIST USA. |
Impact | The team at DESY presented an overview of our current work and plans at the 2021 German Physical Society Meeting https://bib-pubdb1.desy.de/record/463080 A formal collaboration agreement covering the procurement of a new dilution refrigerator has been approved by STFC and is due to be signed off between DESY-U Glasgow-U Cardiff in March 2022. This collaboration strengthens scientific links between the UK Germany which have been severely damaged through Brexit. |

Results and Impact | We delivered a superconductivity exhibit for the ARCadia festival (opening of the new University of Glasgow Advanced Research Centre). Exhibit included levitating superconducting train and superconducting single-photon detector. One team member delivered an interactive lesson with Kahoot! quiz More than 1000 visitors attended the ARC the weekend of our demonstration Feedback from visitors was very positive and specifically mentioned our demonstration |
