Modified Gravity and Cosmology

Abstract
Observations suggest the Universe is undergoing a period of accelerated expansion today. One possible explanation for this could be a modification of general relativity. Any modification would need to be screened in the solar
system to agree with gravitational tests. The project will look at theories which go beyond general relativity but where corrections are screened locally. The project will start by analysing K-mouflage theories and considering tests of this theory around black holes with accretion disks. Further tests of K-mouflage and related theories will be developed to test modified theories in a variety of scenarios using cosmology and astrophysics.
