Magnetic relaxation and response in spin liquids

Lead Research Organisation: University of Cambridge
Department Name: Physics

Abstract

The research project focuses on the dynamics of quantum magnetic systems in contact with a thermal bath, and how the transition from classical to quantum behaviour occurs. Specifically, we aim to investigate dynamical signatures of classical vs quantum spin liquid behaviour in the context of magnetic pyrochlore oxides, starting from a microscopic understanding of the spin dynamics, their coupling to phonons, and the origin of the unusually long spin fluctuation time scales observed at low temperatures.
