Search for di-Higgs production in the hh-bbrr channel using data from the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider

Lead Research Organisation: University of Liverpool
Department Name: Physics

Abstract

The project is a search for a Beyond-the-Standard-Model (BSM) Higgs boson decaying to a pair of Standard Model (SM) Higgs bosons (known as resonant Higgs pair-production), where one SM Higgs decays to a pair of b-quarks and the other to a pair of r leptons.
The project will also involve searching for non-resonant Higgs pair-production, i.e. the production of a pair of Higgs bosons as predicted in the SM, with the same final state as described above.
The full Run-II ATLAS data will be analysed. If the cross-section for di-Higgs production is as predicted by the Standard Model, it is unlikely that this process will be observed. However, if the signal is enhanced by BSM physics, this may be observed.

PI Contribution I have completed my ATLAS qualification task, which involved working on the calibration of the light-flavour jet mis-tag rate. An ATLAS internal note is underway describing this work. I also work on 'Searches for resonant and non-resonant Higgs boson pair-production in the bbtt decay channel' for which a paper is expected to be published by Summer 2018.
Collaborator Contribution In my research I make use of data collected from the ATLAS detector.
