An Investigation into the Viability of Graphene Based X-Ray Detectors for Clinical and Medical Practices

Abstract
I hope to set up a working Graphene field effect transistor based X-Ray detector. I would like to test the response of the Graphene X-Ray detector and learn about how Graphene reacts to the X-Ray sources we will expose it to. Any advantages over current X-Ray detectors, be it resolution, response rate or simply manufacturing cost, would be evaluated and if the detector proved significantly useful I would like to work on expanding the research to design and improve the detector to a multi-functional standard.
A final objective would be to build a fully functional Graphene X-Ray detector for the purpose of being produced and sold to medical professions.

Description | Collaboration with the UCL Institute for Materials Discovery for synthesis of Perovskite Materials |
Organisation | University College London |
Country | United Kingdom |
Sector | Academic/University |
PI Contribution | I have first taken some home grown samples of theirs to test in our X-ray lab to observe the X-ray response that they exhibited. I have made use of their labs and expertise in synthesising my own crystals for use in X-ray detection testing. |
Collaborator Contribution | They have supplied devices initially, which I used in testing. Following on from my proposal to make my own devices, they offered expertise in teaching me to use the labs for synthesis. |
Impact | Characterisation and proof of concept construction of a Perovskite based device. |
