High Assurance Runtime Monitoring of Industrial Control Systems/SCADA

Lead Research Organisation: University of Leicester
Department Name: Computer Science

Abstract

Industrial control systems are mission critical and are occurring in many shapes and sizes; they are used in manufacturing plants and the utility sector (e.g. power generation or water distribution) to control critical infrastructure by automatically adjusting to changes in the operating environment. As most of these systems are networked, cyber attacks are possible with very serious consequences ranging from failure of the infrastructure to pre-mature wearing out of components and hence it is critical to monitor the control system at runtime. This project will develop novel non-invasive approaches for runtime monitoring of distributed Industrial Control Systems.
